A wealth of professional expertise, entrepreneurial skills and successful innovations contributed to popular franchise owner Terry Lucking from Belvoir Peterborough and Belvoir Cambridge scooping Gold as Olderpreneur of the Year at the 2014 British Franchise Association (bfa) HSBC Franchisee of the Year Awards, supported by Express Newspapers.
The Olderpreneur category at this prestigious awards ceremony was developed to showcase the outstanding contributions of franchisees aged 55 and over. Terry (56) boasts an enviable track record over 15 years in the sector; being instrumental in recent modifications to the Belvoir model, continuing to shape the bfa’s Local Franchise Network (LFN) initiatives and building two highly successful businesses. As a category winner Terry received £1000, courtesy of HSBC.
“When my name was announced as the winner I was a bit surprised but very proud,” says Terry, who won the title of bfa Franchisee of the Year in 2007. “After the many years that I’ve put into the business, developing the business and helping to develop opportunities for the staff and the team, winning this award is a real compliment.
“I have worked incredibly hard to help people have careers (not just jobs) where they can develop themselves and substantially develop their income and opportunities for themselves. It makes me feel proud that I’ve been able to do that and it’s nice that recognition has been given.
“I believe the judges were looking at what the people short-listed in my category had brought into their business with entrepreneurial spirit,” continues Terry. “They were possibly looking for innovations that had generated additional revenue or additional attraction for clients, while providing growth and value for the business and the people associated with it.
“I think that was really the primary part of the judging process and I would imagine that the many innovations we’ve implemented, plus the work I’ve done with Belvoir on property sales over the last two to three years helped us win the award.
“If I find a wall I try and push it over and I’m always looking for ways of working smarter not harder and bringing new value to the things that we do for our clients.”
Terry Lucking has been part of the successful Belvoir network for 15 years, opening his first Belvoir franchise in Peterborough in 1999 and taking over Belvoir Cambridge in 2010.
Belvoir recruits franchise owners of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds. This is an exciting time to be joining the network and anyone considering a career in property management is urged to contact the recruitment team for an informal chat to find out more about the Belvoir opportunity.
