When looking for a property to rent, one of the things you will need to consider is whether you want to rent one that is furnished or unfurnished. There are usually different types of ‘furnished’ properties, with some including lots of furniture, whilst some just have the basics.
There are advantages and disadvantages to them both – which we have put together in a two part handy guide to make your decision a lot easier. In part 1, we will be looking at the advantages and disadvantages of renting a property that is already FURNISHED.
Furnished
Advantages
There are lots of different advantages of renting a property that is furnished. The main advantage is that you save a lot of money. Even if you’re moving into a small property, furnishing isn’t cheap – it can end up costing you a small fortune.
Also, renting a furnished property means that not only do you not have to go out and buy everything new (something that can end up being extremely expensive), you can also save money by not needing to hire a huge moving van to transport all your furniture to the new house.
A furnished apartment or house is really good for those who are looking to rent in a hurry and only for a short period of time. If you know that you’re going to be moving on in a matter of months, it’s not worth having to purchase all your own furniture.
Disadvantages
As we said earlier, there are both advantages and disadvantages to renting a furnished apartment. The downside to potentially choosing a furnished apartment is that it could actually cost you more in rent. Some landlords will put the price of rent up – due to the fact you’re getting a lot more included. So where you save money on not needing furniture, you may end up paying a little more in rent.
Other disadvantages include the fact that you may end up damaging something that doesn’t belong to you – accidents happen. In this case, you would have to pay money to compensate the damage you have caused.
What if you don’t like the furniture in the house? Choosing a furnished house is a risk as it might not be your style of taste. It could potentially clash with other furniture that you own.
