Our Focus On series has proven to be a popular tool for home hunters looking to make their next move.

Each month we’ve been taking a look at the wide range of housing areas available in Corby, giving readers an insight to what’s available in each area of Corby when it comes to schools and amenities.

For our last blog we took a look at Gretton and this month we focus on The Shire & Lodge Park area of Corby.

Take a read on to find out more.

Why you should consider The Shire & Lodge Park

Did you know that Corby was designated as a new town in 1950 with most of the housing here being built since this date?

Corby has also been long-known for its strong community spirit which spreads far and wide within all areas of the town, include The Shire & Lodge Park.

Located north of the Lodge Park area, The Shire has lots to offer to those living here with well serviced bus routes offering easy access to other areas of the town, including the town centre with its array of shops and eating establishments. There is also a library and swimming pool featuring a full-size competition pool!

Within walking distance for many is a range of local shops and amenities. Also close by for many workers in the area is the Earlstree Industrial Estate which is home to a range of businesses.

Local amenities in the area

When it comes to schools, there is a good range available including Studfall Infant Academy for ages 3-7, Studfall Junior Academy, for ages 7-11 and primary school Woodnewton – A Learning Community. All are located on Rowlett Road.

Meanwhile, secondary school Lodge Park Academy, is located on Shetland Way. An interesting fact about this school was that it became an academy in 2013 and was opened by none other than the Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton!

When considering a school for your child, it’s worth bearing in mind that on 2nd September 2024 the government announced that single-word judgements and phrases – such as ‘outstanding’, ‘good’, ‘requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’ overallin inspections of state-funded schools – would stop with immediate effect.

The area is bordered by two shopping parades – one located at Welland Vale shops with a range of shops and convenience stores, plus a hairdressers, fast food takeaways including Chinese, chip shop and kebab shop, plus a café and coffee shop too.

Slightly further but still within walking distance are a range of shops on Studfall Avenue, which include a chip shop, a variety of convenience stores for those everyday essentials, including One Stop, Costcutter and Rocky’s Local. There is also a laundrette, florist and bakery, plus Strides of Studfall Coffee Shop, which serves fresh, homemade meals while also offering a meals on wheels service.

If you want to pop to your local, you can venture to the Shire Horse pub on Willow Brooke Road. A friendly local, where there is a good schedule of live music, discos and quiz nights. The venue also offers a regular Sunday carvery which is available to eat in or takeaway. For when the weather is warmer, there is also an outdoor beer garden.

Five minutes’ walk from the Shire Horse on Rockingham Leisure Park is The Samuel Lloyd Wetherspoon’s pub, trampoline park Gravity Active, plus eateries such as Subway & Greggs.
