Home hunters looking to make their next move have been able to find out more about the areas in and around Corby by reading our Focus On series.
Featuring insight into what’s available in each area of Corby when it comes to schools and amenities, each month we’ve been taking a look at the wide range of housing areas available. We’ve covered almost all areas including Beanfield, Priors Hall and Great Oakley.
Last month we focused on The Shire & Lodge Park. In this, our last blog for 2024, we take a look at what’s wonderful about Weldon.
Why you should consider Weldon
The village of Weldon is listed in the Domesday Book as ‘Weledene’ which means ‘hill with a spring/stream’.
Located on the outskirts of Corby it has great road links to Stamford and surrounding areas thanks to the A43 link road.
The town centre is also a matter of miles away and is easy to reach by car, making it ideal for those wanting to be near the hustle and bustle that this brings with its array of shops and Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Local amenities in the area
Weldon is served by two schools – a primary and secondary. Part of the Peterborough Diocese Education Trust, Weldon Church of England Primary School on Chapel Road caters for students aged 4-10.
Meanwhile, Weldon Village Academy, part of the Meridian Trust, is a secondary school located on Oundle Road. Opened in September 2023, the school was built at a cost of £30 million and provides a total of 1500 school places. It will eventually grow to feature its own 6th Form with 300 pupils.
There is also Corby Business Academy, a secondary school which is located on the nearby Priors Hall estate.
When it comes to shopping for daily essentials or just a browse, there is a Londis within the village. A couple of miles drive from Weldon is Phoenix Parkway retail park featuring a range of shops and eateries, including a McDonalds, The Range, Starbucks, Halfords, Currys, Marks & Spencer Food Hall, as well as Asda.
A Tesco Extra is just around the corner from Asda, as well as Corby train station. With regular links into London, the station is perfect for those having to make the commute into the city for work or pleasure.
When it’s time to unwind and relax, you can head to The George, a pub which was once a 17th-century coaching inn.
Weldon is also home to Weldon Cricket Club which run teams for both adults and children.
Heading out towards Stamford, there’s also the popular 18-hole Priors Hall Golf Club set in the scenic Northamptonshire countryside for those fancying a round of golf.
