We’ve all heard of the ‘January Blues’
Christmas has gone for another year and the glum, grey chill of January is here.
Well, we’re nowhere near that quite yet. Or, at least, there is a good few months to go.
However, with everything that’s going on in the world, things can appear more than a little grim at the moment. Sure, Halloween is around the corner. Guy Fawkes after that, and then, yes, that glorious Edinburgh Christmas…But, blimey, are you really feeling it?
The nation’s mood, it would appear, is in something of a funk. And who could blame it?
Thankfully, Belvoir Edinburgh is here to bring in the love.
It’s time we cheered ourselves up, ladies and gentlemen, and forgot about all of that ghastly horribleness that’s plaguing all of our lives.
“But how?” I hear you ask. “What can we do to beat the gloom?”
Glad you asked.
Let’s get creative and put a smile on all of our faces. Here are 5 tips to cheer up your home…and you.
Remove Clutter: A tidy home makes for a tidy mind…Or so the theory goes. In any case, having a bit of a tidy up can be a therapeutic process in itself and will leave you with a home in a far more appealing appearance having done it. And, on top of all of that, what does a more clutter-free space allow you to do?
Rearrange: That’s right! Not only can you clean up your life, but you can also rearrange it! Have a look at your living room and see if you can, at least temporarily, do things a little differently. Television at the other wall? Lamp over by the bookcase? At the very least, you’ll need to make room for that Christmas tree you’ll be getting…Oops! Did we just use the ‘C’ word already?
Smell Scent-sation: Very little stimulates the soul quite like a comforting nose-tickle from our past. Whether that’s some home baking, a whiff of pine or the seductive aroma of freshly ground coffee, it really does do something quite lovely to our sense of being. Choose your scent wisely and perfume your home as much or as little as suits. There are plenty of scented candles on the market that are bound to appeal, but why not get cooking in that kitchen of yours? Fresh bread? Yummy cookies?….Mmmm.
Photo Finish: When it comes down to it, nothing is more important than your family. If you’re living alone, or even if you’re not, you can sometimes feel very far away from those treasured people that you love. So, dig out some old photos of your folks, or magical moments with your siblings, and put them up in frames around your house. It’s not the same as being with them, we know, but those happy memories are bound to put a smile on your face and a glow in your heart.
Seasonal Decorations: Well, we’ve said the ‘C’ word, so we might as well get right onto the whole celebratory side of things. Halloween is coming, so go for it and get in the spirit (sorry!)! Pumpkins, spider webs…You know what we’re saying. And, when that’s over, IT’S CHRISTMAS!!! Too early? Yes. But, who cares. If it cheers you up, assemble that tree, dangle those lights and let Cliff Richard sing his heart out…Ehm…Or whoever it is you like to listen to during the festive season.
Life is too short to be miserable, so do whatever you can to keep things positive around the home.
What did we miss out on? Is there something you do around about now to keep things buoyant?
Be sure to let us know.
From everyone here at Belvoir Edinburgh, we hope you all have a super, lovely and obscenely tasty week.
Keep smiling. And stay awesome.
