the top 10 features potential buyers and renters look for in a property

If your house is currently on the market and you’ve got viewings this weekend, the results of a new survey on the most appealing features to potential buyers and renters might help the offers flood in.

Most of the tips are pretty obvious – after all who’s going to snap up a flat with a damp and cluttered interior and no natural light?

When it comes to interior design, keeping it minimal is the key to attracting the most viewings, according to the research from Privilege Home Insurance.

Conversely, if you’ve created an extreme-bohemian vibe with lashings of animal print you may find that only one in ten potential buyers will make the effort to look round.

Other big turn offs include toilet rugs or covers, chandeliers and that peculiarly British garden ornament – the gnome.

Unsurprisingly cleanliness is the biggest property turn on, followed closely by outdoor space, a walk-in wardrobe, ample kitchen storage and finally fast broadband.

Smart technology will also impress – so order a Nest thermostat and install a connected fridge freezer and you may just instigate a bidding war.
