New research from AppliancesDirect.co.uk has revealed that Britain is a nation lacking in hygiene when it comes to their home appliances.
According to a survey of 1,015 UK adults, an overwhelming 71% said they don’t regularly clean their home appliances and admitted it is the washing machine which is cleaned the least. In fact, Britons clean the washing machine just once per year on average, according to the research.
Cleaning the oven came in second place, as respondents said they do this appliance twice per year. This was followed by the dishwasher which is cleaned three times per year and the fridge which is cleaned eight times per year. The microwave rounded off the list of the top five appliances that are cleaned the least in the home, only 21 times per year.
More than 1 in 3 (34%) admitted that they hire a professional to do this cleaning work for them.
Mark Kelly, marketing manager at AppliancesDirect.co.uk comments: “Despite the recommended guidelines for cleaning, surprisingly there is still many of us who don’t clean our home appliances, with the washing machine revealed as the appliance that is cleaned the least.
Instead of dodging these chores and bringing in the professionals, by investing in some cleaning tools the job will be a lot easier and cheaper for those concerned. Also, it will mean appliances won’t have to be replaced as frequently, so it is really important that Brits look after their domestic gadgets.”
23% of Brits revealed that this lack of cleaning means their appliances are replaced frequently.
Those aged 25 – 34 years old are the age group who clean their home appliances the least.
