Moving house marks the start of a new adventure but it can quickly turn into chaos if you don’t have all your ducks in a row. We looked at some tips that might seem like common sense and that’s because it is!
Pack an overnight bag
By the time you’ve moved into your new home, you won’t be in the mood to rummage through boxes for your toothbrush. Packing an overnight bag with extra clothes and your toiletries will save a lot of annoyance later.
Pack an ‘essentials’ survival kit
Much like the overnight bag, this trick will simplify matters greatly. Pack all the essentials, like cleaning products, toilet paper, toolkits – whatever you deem essential – into a crate. This will be your survival kit, trust us.
Use bags, crates, and laundry baskets for packing
These items are made for storage, so why not use them as such.
Put hanging clothes in garbage bags
This is one of the best packing hacks out there. Pull a garbage bag over the hanging clothes and tie the hangers together at the end.
Colour code boxes
Put coloured stickers on boxes and put the same colour sticker on the door of the room that box should go in.
Defrost the freezer
Remember to defrost the freezer a day or two before the move to prevent a spillage.
Make sure you have enough help
We all know how much planning and work goes into a move. Make sure you have all the help you need so that you don’t have to scramble for extra help on the day of the move.
Arrange a pet / baby-sitter
The same goes for arranging help with kids and pets on the day of the move. Make arrangements well in advance so that there’s one less thing to worry about on move day.
Forward your mail to your new address
It’s easy to forget this, so make sure to change it at least two weeks before the move.
Remember the Prosecco
After all is done and dusted, don’t forget to celebrate the small victories.
