Bauble alternatives
Store bought Christmas decorations can be very expensive, especially this time of year. Swop pricey baubles for a creative DIY alternative. You can decorate and hang small cards in which you have to write down something for which you’re grateful. You can even hang small photos of your loved ones or ask the kids to draw their own bauble cut outs which they can decorate.
Fill your own cracker
Not only is it a way to make the crackers more personalised, but you can be creative with your content. Filling up crackers with your guests’ favourite sweets or a kind message will save you money and make it more personal. Buying plain fillable crackers also creates an opportunity for the children to decorate them.
Make your own wreath
There are countless DIY wreath ideas out there, and it’s another fun activity to do with the children. You can mould air-dry clay into leaves which you can paint and decorate after it has dried. Then arrange the leaves into a wreath that you stick together with some heavy duty, quick dry glue. Don’t forget the foliage – dried flowers, leaves and twigs make for beautiful seasonal decorations for your wreath.
This and that garland
You can paint pinecones and hang them from a string to form a rainbow garland for your wall. Small photos of your dearest or decorations made by the kids can also make for a creative decoration. You can even upcycle old pieces of material to make little flags you can hang from the garland.
Baked goodies
Simple cookies can make for a lovely, inexpensive table decoration. Baking is a labour of love, and not only will your table look rounded off, but your guests will get to enjoy some homemade goodness.
