Exploring and Exercise
Winsford is a wonderful place to explore, with a multitude of cycle tracks and walking routes across the surrounding area and the town itself. If you are outdoorsy there is also the Whitegate Way, The River Weaver and Delamere Forest, and golf and tennis can be found in the town itself at Knight’s Grange.
Winsford Lifestyle Centre is a hive of activity for all ages and features a 25-metre swimming pool, learner pool, sauna, steam room and spa pool, as well as a 48-station fitness suite, two squash courts, a dance studio and a multi-purpose hall for basketball, badminton and five-a-side football.
For those who enjoy being outdoors, areas surrounding Winsford such as Darnhall, Wettenhall, Bostock Green, Little Budworth and Whitegate are more rural. These offer a more countryside feel, boasting spectacular views and beautiful walks only a short stroll from the town centre itself. At the heart of Winsford are The Flashes – a series of three lakes along the banks of the River Weaver, known locally as The Cheshire Broads.
Working and Learning
Winsford is also becoming a thriving centre for employment with Cheshire Fire Service and the Cheshire Police hosting their headquarters in Winsford as well as Vale Royal Borough Council also based in the town. Being so near to major cities means that Winsford is also well placed for transport links, being close to both the M6 and M56 motorways. The town’s railway station has hourly direct connections to Liverpool Lime Street and Birmingham New Street and Manchester via Crewe.
Schools such as Winsford High Street Primary School, Winsford Academy, Willow Wood Primary, Wharton Primary and Darnall Primary School all benefit from good reputations. There is also a college which offers a huge variety of academic and practical courses.
Shopping and socialising
Winsford has extensive free parking in and around its shopping centre. Winsford Cross Shopping Centre is open seven days a week and is home to a range of large chain stores and independents. The town also has a regular market on a Monday, Thursday and Saturday. The shopping meccas of the Trafford Centre and Cheshire Oaks are both just a short distance away.
There is also a selection of pubs, restaurants and bars in the area with The Hayhurst Arms, Fishpool Inn and Nu Flava being some of the locals’ favourites.
