Getting weeds out the cracks in the patio
One of the simplest and most cost effective ways to de-weed your patio is to use your very own trusty pair of hands (in gloves) to pull the majority of the weed out and then, using a kitchen knife, scrape the remainder out from the root.
Once it’s all out, add weed killer over the area to keep them at bay!
Lawn TLC
There’s nothing quite like a bright green lawn! The greener the grass, the better it will look. So how do we get our grass green? You can pick up some relatively cheap fertilisers from a range of garden centres, DIY stores and supermarkets and treat the area.
One of the best thing about fertilisers is that they fill up the bare patches in your lawn, which builds up the lawns resiliency against weeds, foot traffic and weather.
Clean it up
It’s not just the inside of the house that needs a good clean every now and again, your garden can get full of clutter and dirt just as easily! Any footpaths or patios deserve a good clean with either a jet wash or some good old soapy water and a scrubbing brush.
Old plant pots, broken fencing and chewed up dog toys are all a no! Try recycling whatever you can, but make sure all the junk and broken stuff is gone for good.
Let there be light
Everyone loves fairy lights! They are so easy to get your hands on and never too expensive either. They’re perfect all year round, adding a nice ambience to any garden, plus many of them are battery operated so there’s not plugging in. Try arranging them by wrapping around branches and bushes or intertwining them through fence panels or any other garden furniture.
Alternatively, other garden lighting such as solar panel lawn lights are completely self-sufficient – so no changing batteries or plugging in, and can really give your garden the wow factor.
A lick of paint
Things like fences, benches and sheds don’t have to be boring and brown! An old shed that’s seen better days can really let the rest of the garden down. Try resurrecting your shed with a lick of paint to make a huge difference. Make sure to give it a good scrub down first and then get painting with whichever colours you fancy. Colours such as teal and light blue are good complementary colours.
Wildlife
Now that your garden is looking absolutely fabulous, the final touch is having some wildlife to enjoy it too.
Bird houses and bird baths can be used to attract birds to the garden, but above all, the most important thing is the food you can provide, such as peanuts, sunflower seeds and fat balls, which are essential in making sure your feathered friends return time and time again. Remember that any food you have provided should be preferably as far away from any cats as possible!
