A report from BuytoLet.com is indicating the majority of students and landlords have good relationships during their tenancy.
The majority of students have good relationships with their landlords and letting agents, a new study has revealed. According to a survey by Accommodation for Students, 66% of respondents live in a property
managed by landlords and letting agents.
While the majority are happy with their landlords, some are experiencing problems. The most frequently cited issue was a lack of communication, with 40% stating their landlord failed to respond when they reported maintenance problems and 32.5% reporting a general lack of communication.
Just over a third (36%) said they have not experienced any problems with their landlords at all, but 51% said their deposits had been unfairly withheld. Simon Thompson, co-founder of Accommodation for Students, said: “Our findings did not seek to generalise students, as many have very individual experiences, but instead were designed to help us
and our beneficiaries to better understand the changing requirements of the modern student.” He went on to say the results included some important information that landlords should take into consideration when approaching the student buy-to-let market.
More than half (52%) of students said they use Google to search for accommodation and the main features they look for are low price, proximity to the university, fast internet, good storage space
and large communal areas.
