As the national newspapers recently reported there are now 562,000 estate agents in the UK, prompting speculation that Britain is now a nation of estate agents rather than shopkeepers, Belvoir Sheffield is refuting these claims, and instead suggesting that any increases in those joining the sector, suggest that the market is buoyant.
Rick Flay, Director at Belvoir Sheffield, who offer a wide range houses to buy in Sheffield said: “The national newspapers reported that Britain is evolving into a nation of estate agents, but a follow up report by the magazine EAT, actually found that the figures did not just report on the number of estate agents at all, there were other activities that had been included in the court, including public and private landlords, staff of housing associations, and conference and exhibition workers. The original figures released made it seem like there were now 562,000 estate agents in the UK but earlier this week EAT revealed some of the categories that maybe skewed the initial count for example people who were:
- Buying and selling of own real estate
- Renting and operating of Housing Association of real estate
- Letting and operating of conference and exhibition centres

It actually suggests if anything that the number of estate agents and landlords could be increasing but not quite to the level of half a million or more. What is does suggest though is that the market is extremely buoyant, and that now is the time to buy for the cash rich landlord.”
