'Capping Rents Will Not Ease Housing Crisis' Claims Belvoir Sheffield

Belvoir Sheffield the leading lettings agency in Sheffield. has argued that more support from the Government for private landlords would be a more effective way of dealing with the housing crisis- even more effective than capping rents.

The statement came after the release of the recent National Housing Federation report called ‘Home Truths’, which argued that years of not building enough homes has caused an increase in rents and house prices.

Rick Flay, Director at Belvoir Sheffield, who offer a wide range of property to rent Sheffield, said: ” In the current market demand is far outweighing supply, this has caused a widely reported housing shortage, especially when the number of single households is in fact on the rise, more people are looking to rent before buying and in light of the fact that immigration is on the increase.

“Industry critics have suggested capping rents as a means of controlling this shortage, but i disagree entirely because this could lead to reduced standards of accommodation, an observation made earlier this week by Landlord Assist managing director Graham Kinnear.

Graham said: “We think that consideration should be given at government level to support not only housing associations and social housing providers but also private landlords as all these parties can help to address the current housing shortage. If the Government makes it easier for landlords to gain finance this will help to increase the supply of properties and reduce rental costs”

Rick the expert in property lettings services in Sheffield, added: “Although Government support is not where it should be, here at Belvoir Sheffield we do our very best to support all of our private landlords. We would like to invite all landlords for a free no obligation meeting with us to see what support is available.”
