Rick Flay of Belvoir Sheffield has been appointed an official ambassador for the Make Your Mark campaign.
Make Your Mark is the national campaign to unlock the UK’s enterprise potential. It inspires people to have ideas and make them happen and aims to create a culture which supports enterprising people and recognises that making money and having a positive social impact can go hand in hand.
TV programmes such as the ever-popular Dragon’s Den are intended to promote enterprise and to encourage entrepreneurs to design, manufacture and market new and innovative products and services. With an aim to promote innovation and enterprise, Make Your Mark seeks to give people in the UK the confidence, skills and ambition to make their ideas happen. Belvoir Sheffield, the regional property specialists, offering, property to rent in Sheffield, , are proud supporters of the nationwide campaign.
The campaign is brought to life through the inspirational stories of successful entrepreneurs and enterprising individuals in the world of work, which is why Rick Flay has been chosen. Rick is already making his ideas happen by successfully growing a franchise business specialising in houses to let in Sheffield and flats in Sheffield. Ricks hard work and enterprise were rewarded when the business won the British Franchise Association’s New Franchise of the Year award in 2007 and a Silver Franchise of the Year award in 2008.
Rick added, “I think the Make Your Mark initiative is a great way of providing support and information to budding entrepreneurs. I was never interested in a conventional 9-5 job but it took me years to build up the confidence to go it alone. I’m sure that if I’d had access to mentors such as those offered through the Make Your Mark campaign, which supported and encouraged an enterprising approach then I would have given it a go much sooner.”
Eimear Hale, from Make Your Mark, said: “A Make Your Mark ambassador is an individual who can use their experience to inspire others and encourage them to turn their ideas into reality. Ambassadors are central to the campaign’s aim of increasing entrepreneurial motivation and experience. Rick will join a network who together will inspire people across the UK to take the plunge and make their ideas happen.”
There are 600 Make Your Mark Ambassadors across the UK committed to telling their inspiring stories via events, school visits and the media. Their efforts will inspire others to go out and make their dreams a reality.
Rick added, “I have been an entrepreneur for many years and have learned from both my successes and those businesses that haven’t worked. My advice is not to be afraid of failure and not to let yourself be put off by people saying that your business idea won’t work. I’m sure that if I’d had access to mentors such as those offered through the Make Your Mark campaign, which supported and encouraged an enterprising approach then I would have given it a go much sooner.”
