Empiric student property has secured an £11m forward funded development to create a 107-bed dwelling for students. The structure will be situated in Sheffield’s city centre, directly next to the University of Sheffield’s north campus. The development will see the conversion of the current, five-storey Provincial House building office building, as well as the two-storey structure adjacent to Provincial House. The conversion will see the property transformed into 24 units, together with the construction of three new blocks to accommodate an additional 83 units.
Paul Hadaway, chief executive of Empiric Student property, commented on the development, saying: “This acquisition further increases our footprint in Sheffield, a city with two universities and nearly 48,000 full-time students, the 6th biggest student population outside London.
“This will mean that, together with Portobello House, the Group will own 241 operating beds in Sheffield, once all properties reach completion in time for the 2017/18 academic year”.
The rise in student accommodation in Sheffield will ensure growth in both of Sheffields two Universities, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield University.
