Sheffield Area Guide

The S11 area includes some of the greatest places to visit in the whole of Sheffield. The Bohemian area boasts a huge array of boutique shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants which makes S11 an attraction in itself. There is a quarterly farmer’s market on Sharrowvale Road which is well worth a visit. S11 is made up of great places to live such as Ecclesall, Endcliffe Park, Ecclesall Road, Greystones, Hunter’s Bar, Millhouses, Sharrow Vale and more! All of which are only a short drive to the city centre.

One of the highlights of S11 is Ecclesall Park and Woods. 140 hectares (around 350 acres), making it the largest semi-natural woodland in South Yorkshire. The woods are an extremely popular visitor destination and are particularly valued for their wildlife, historic and archaeological features. S8 offers a multitude of attractive, desirable and welcoming places to own a home. Areas within S8 that we believe have the most to offer are Beauchief, Greenhill, Meersbrook, Norton, Norton Lees, Woodseats. These are all around a 10-15 minute drive from the city centre. S8 has a tight-knit community, which has grown from hosting regular social events within the area such as The Graves 5k weekly run and the Woodseats Festival. The Woodseats festival has loads of activities to partake in, including a craft fair and art exhibition, a community parade through the streets, a family fun day and a literary evening.

On Chesterfield Road you will find a huge selection of restaurants, takeaways, food and fashion shops, hairdressers, opticians, independent butchers, fishmongers as well as a Tesco and an Asda with a large Morrisons as you head out towards the A61. There is also Woodside Retail Park which houses shops such as Homebase and Carpetright within its units.

Leisure activities can be found nearby at Graves Park which stands as Sheffields largest park and boasts a petting zoo, playground and tea room.

The S2 area is an excellent example of the gems found within the City of Sheffield. It is located around 20 minutes away from the city center via bus and just 10 minutes by car. S2 is instantly recognizable for its vast selection of great restaurants and shops located nearby. The area is made up of great places to live such as Heeley, Highfield, Norfolk Park, Park Hill and more!

One of the highlights of S2 is Heeley Millenium Park. It has a bike trail with great views, multi-use games area and hosts many festivals and events. Meersbrook Park and Graves Park are also close by. Graves Park is a spectacle as the largest park in Sheffield, housing a zoo, playground and tearoom within its grounds. In S2 you will find plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes nearby at Heeley Green and on London and Chesterfield Road. Heeley Retail Park includes Matalan, Pets at Home, Next, Boots and Currys, there is also a pound shop and Lidl nearby. Within the area there is also the Queens Road Retail Park, which contains useful shops such as Dreams Bed Superstore and Magnet amongst many more! Leisure activities can be found in the form of Heeley Swimming Pool and Gym located on Broadfield Road. One of the main attractions in S2 is the up and coming “Antiques Quarter” on Broadfield Road, London and Abbeydale Road. Live music can also be found at the Heeley Institute. The S17 area boasts multiple places that are brilliant to live. This includes the villages Dore, Totley and Bradway located about 6 miles south west of Sheffield City Centre, about 20 minutes by car. The villages are nearby open countryside with a variety of walking trails. An activities centre is located on Dore Recreation Ground and other open spaces include Ecclesall Woods and Blacka Moor.

There are many reasons that make S10 an amazing place to live within Sheffield. Two of the jewels within S10’s crown, Crookes and Broomhill, lie just west of Sheffield City Centre and are known as student areas for the Sheffield University and Hallamshire teaching hospital. It’s around a 20-minute walk to the city centre and a 10-minute drive.

Within S10, Broomhill boasts several excellent eateries for example Thyme Café and The York. There are two convenience stores, a bookshop, record shop, boutique clothes shops as well as hairdressers and plenty of takeaways. Crookes has a similar variety of independent shops and a great selection of pubs and restaurants. Both areas are lively during university term time but quieter over the Summer months when the students depart. The nearest park in the area is the Botanical Gardens which takes you to Ecclesall Road. There are regular theatrical and musical events in the park and with a tea room/restaurant and several orangeries it’s well worth a visit.

Private schools include Birkdale and Sheffield High School which caters for boys and girls respectively, aged 4- sixthform, Ashdell Prepartory School, Westboune School and King Edwards. Public schools include Notre Dame, Tapton Secondary School and Broomhill Infants School.

Nether Edge is an attractive, desirable, green and leafy suburb with its own village centre and close to the many shops and restaurants and the Antiques Quarter on Abbeydale Road. It’s about a thirty-minute walk to the city centre and only a fifteen-minutes to Ecclesall Road. A ten-minute drive to the city centre and motorway links via the A61. The centre of Nether Edge has all the small conveniences that you need and make for a village feel to the area. There’s a local Sainsbury’s, butchers, barbers, two independent and excellent cafés – Café 9 and Homemade.

There are multiple parks in the area, this includes Chelsea Park, off Chelsea Road. Chelsea Park is a lovely enclosed park with a small playground. Mount Pleasant Park is closer to the city centre on Abbeydale Road. Larger parks can be found nearby at Meersbrook and Millhouses.

Kelham Island is most definitely one of the many jewels in Sheffield’s crown. A small suburb that is located close to the city centre which was previously an industrial area has been regenerated into a modern community whilst retaining elements that reflect back to its heritage roots.  The area is highlighted by the stunning views of the river Don, which snakes through Kelham Island. This provides a long, superb, backdrop for riverside walks. A large amount of residential developments have been created within the area in recent years that have already become very popular which include a selection of restaurants, shops and pubs.

Kelham Island also has superb attractions including the Kelham Island Museum and the Kelham Island Brewery, providing brilliant afternoons out.
