If you decide to move into one of our available flats to rent in Sutton Coldfield then you’ll probably want to make it feel like home, and doing that means adding a few personal touches to the décor. However, understandably, there tend to be a fair few restrictions on what you can and can’t do when you move in – since you don’t own the property, you can only make cosmetic changes that can be reversed, especially since you’ll be wanting to get your deposit back when you move out!
Luckily, there are loads of great options available to you which don’t involve wreaking lasting damage on your new home. Here are a few of our top tips:
Change the Curtains (But Keep the Originals!)
Never underestimate the importance of curtains for bringing a room together; as much as a poster on the wall, they can be used to express your personality and ensure that the room feels right. This is even truer if you choose to spend a few hours making your own; nothing makes home feel like home more than handmade items!
You can switch out the curtains incredibly easily; just store away the landlord’s originals somewhere safe ready to be replaced when you leave. Even better, once you’ve made one set of curtains you can take them with you to your next house. This can also be done with items such as shower curtains and lampshades.
Use Soft Furnishings
The golden rule of decorating a rental property? You can never have too many soft furnishings! Rugs, blankets, cushions and throws; use everything you can to cover up furniture which isn’t necessarily what you’d have chosen and splash your own taste across the room. Pick a theme, whether it’s a set of colours or a concept, and spend some time gathering items that work well together. You’ll thank yourself next time it’s time for a cosy Netflix night in.
Wallpaper Panels Beat the Real Thing
Wallpapering is definitely out the window, but if you’re the sort of person who goes crazy for some colour or patterns on the wall then you don’t have to feel disappointed. Wallpaper sheets of plywood and place them in carefully chosen locations around the room for a contemporary and fresh look which breaks up the room with a few pops of colour. Behind the sofa or at the end of a table make particularly good spots for this kind of art.
