Landlords and home owners across Telford and Shropshire were today urged to take advantage of a new Government grant scheme which will pay for up to £5,000 to install energy efficient measures on properties.
Telford property expert Simon Bell, who manages over 500 homes in the region on behalf of landlords, welcomed the new Green Homes Grant announced by Business and Energy Secretary Alok Sharma today.
Simon, of property specialist Belvoir Telford, said: “Although the scheme will not open for applications until the end of the month, today saw the launch of a new survey which will help landlords and homeowners see for themselves how energy efficient their properties are.
“The Governments Simple Energy Advice website will also suggest improvements and within five minutes will send a personalised energy plan.
“There are bound to be thousands of applications for this grant scheme so planning in advance will help for when applications open at the end of September.”
Simon said landlords need to get a quote from a listed supplier before applying online. Once approved, the Government will grant a voucher to the homeowner or landowner.
“The vouchers will probably cover around two-thirds of the cost of most work which will certainly help in these tough times. The grant can be used for a variety of measures, from wall and roof insultation right through to low carbon heating solutions, including solar thermal and ground source heat pumps.
